Bhubaneswar: The Odisha chief minister, Naveen Patniak, Friday announced that the government has abolished the Block Grant system and reintroduced Grant-in-Aid for government aided private school teachers and college lecturers.
Following the announcement of the chief minister, the teachers and lecturers who were on agitation for the last 17 days have called off their protest. The teacher and lecturer association leaders have said that they have given two months time to finalise the modalities of reintroduction of the Grant-in-Aid scale in the state.
Over 60,000 school teachers and college lecturers under the banner of United Forum of Teachers and Lecturers were siting on in dharna in front of the state assembly demanding implementation of Grant-in-Aid salary with service condition and pension abolishing the Block Grant system.
After several round of discussion, the state government has finally conceded to the demands of the teachers.
