Bhubaneswar: The sleuths of Air Intelligence Unit of Central Custom department Monday seized contraband gold worth of Rs 5.5 lakhs from a passenger at the Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar. Gold weighing 170 gm was recovered from his rectum.

Acting on an intelligence input, the customs officers held the accused and conducted a thorough search of his body and personal baggage and found one silver coated gold bangle and two semi cylindrical gold bars weighing around 170.750 grams hidden in his rectum. The officials are interrogating the accused to get further information from him, sources said.

A custom department release said, “The accused is a resident of Ramanathapuram in Tamil Nadu who arrived at the Bhubaneswar airport from Kuala Lumpur by Air Asia flight”.

Earlier, a similar incident like this also took place at the city airport, on September 12.  Gold worth Rs 21.89 lakh was seized from a passenger from the Bhubaneswar international airport.
