Jeypore: Prosecution of a lady doctor for taking selfie in operation theater of the district headquarter hospital(DHH) here has outraged fellow doctors. The doctors are of the opinion that there is nothing wrong in taking selfie in the OT.

Taking selfie in the OT by lady doctor Sasmita Dash has created a furor in the state. Following media trial, the CDMO Lalit Mohan Rath has ordered a probe into the matter. He also assured that action would be taken on the basis of the probe report.

Dr Sasmita had taken the selfie while a pregnant woman was being operated in the OT. The matter came to the public when she uploaded the pic in the social media.

“I have posted the pic in a Whatsapp group of the DHH doctors and officials”, said Dr Sasmita. According to her, she has no other intention in taking the selfie and post it on the social media.

“It was a collective decision of the doctors to take the selfie in order to inform the CDMO about the commencement of operation at the OT. It was a special occasion as it took many days for revival of the OT and the operation was the first one,” the doctor said.

Senior doctors have come in support of Dr Sasmita. According to them there is nothing new in taking photos in OT. These days entire operation process is being recorded and shown to the interested doctors, family members and others too. With advancement of technology, operation procedures are now being carried out before the eyes of the patients. Not only that super specialist doctors guide team of doctors engaged in operation through video conferencing these days, the senior doctors have argued.
