New Delhi: The Parliamentary Standing Committee on IT chairman Anurag Thakur cautioned the social media giant Twitter to ensure that the Indian elections is not undermined and not influenced by foreign entities.

Thakur said that the social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp must work in real time with Election Commission to address the issue.

The Twitter vice president for public policy, Colin Crowell, Monday appeared before the Parliamentary Standing Committee on IT. The Twitter was summoned over allegations of bias on its platform.

The Parliamentary panel has summoned senior officials
from Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp as well as four other social media
platform representatives on March 6, 2019 on the issue of
‘Safeguarding citizens’ rights on social media platforms.
