Bhubaneswar: The state agriculture minister, Arun Sahoo, Saturday said that the state government has provided financial assistance to 51 lakh farmers under Kalia scheme. Over 36.34 lakh small and marginal farmers and 14.70 landless farmers have been benefited so far, he added.

The minister, while replying to an adjourn motion in state assembly, said that the state government has a target o cover 50 lakh small and marginal farmers and 25 lakh landless farm labourers under the scheme.

He said while the small and marginal farmers are bing provided Rs 5000 each in Khariff and Rabi season to purchase inputs like seed, fertiliser, pesticide and labour wages. Similarly, the landless farm labourers are being provided with Rs 12,000 to undertake agriculture allied activities like poultry, dairy, goatery, fisheries, silk rearing, bee keeping and mushroom cultivation.

The adjournment motion was brought by opposition chief whip Mohan Charan Majhi, Mukesh Mahalinga, Jayanta Kumar Sarangi and Naba Kumar Majhi.
