Bhubaneswar: The union steel ministry has shown new interest in developing Kalinganagar in Odisha’s Jajpur district as ‘Steel Cluster’ of India.

After union petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan taking over the Steel ministry, a task force has been constituted to implement the ‘Kalinganagar Steel Cluster’ project. The steel ministry has constituted a task force with union steel secretary Binoy Kumar as chairman and Odisha chief secretary Asit Tripathy as vice-chairman.The task force will scout investors and industrialists interested in steel sector in Odisha.

Executive groups have been constituted to give escort services to investors intending to invest in auto component, spare parts, construction equipment, agriculture implements, corrugated sheets, ferro alloys, cement, casting powder and mobile spares.

As the National Steel Policy targets 300 million tonnes of steel capacity by 2030, the steel ministry is promoting cluster concept in eastern states of Odisha, Jharkhand and West Bengal.

With Tata Steel’s mega steel plant, and plants of Jindal Steel, Nilachal Ispat Nigam, Visa Steel, Kalinganagar has all the potential to emerge as a major steel hub of the country.
