New Delhi: The National Human Rights Commissoin (NHRC) has asked the Odisha government’s school and mass education principal secretary and the Kendrapara SP to submit report on molestation of minor girl case within four weeks that is by November 24.

According to a report a minor girl was allegedly molested by a teacher of N. K. High School, Posai of Balipal Gram Panchayat under Mahakalapada block education office of Kendrapara district.

Pratap Mohanty, a RTI activist and Core Committee Member of Odisha Soochana Adhikar Abhijan, had filed a petition before the NHRC stating that a 7th class minor girl was molested by teacher of the N.K high School, posai of Balipal Gram panchayt under Mohakalpada police station of Kendrapara district. When the news was highlighted, Ajay Kumar Parida, block education officer, suspended the accused teacher but did not take any legal action nor filed FIR against the teacher. But the BEO committed blunder in exposing the name of the victim in suspension letter and shared it with media. The victim and her family got mentally and psychologically harassed and humiliated due to media expose. The family was found subjected to social stigma and humiliation by the villagers in the locality. Terming it as gross violation of human rights of a minor girl, Mohanty has sought intervention of NHRC to order for inquiry into it. He also urged the Commission to take action against the accused teacher and BEO and provide compensation of Rs. 20 lakh to the victim.

Acting on the petition, the NHRC has registered a case (3261/18/27/2019) and issued notice to school and mass education principal secretary and SP Kendrapada to submit the report within 4 weeks.
