Rourkela: The Software Technology Park of India (STPI) is planning to set up a Centre of Excellence (CoE) in the city.

“STPI has plans to set up a CoE in Rourkela in collaborative model,” said the STPI director general, Omkar Rai, adding, “The detailed project report (DPR) for the purpose would be prepared soon.”

The CEO will deal with cyber crime, data analytics, Internate of Things (IoT), gaming technology and data sceince. The focus would on research in emerging computer technology and innovation, to boost Intellectual Property Rights to create an ecosystem for start up business.

Leading technical educational institution like National Institute of Technology (NIT), Rourkela, industries and other stake holders would collaborate to run the CoE.

Rai, who was here on Thursday, inaugurated the first BPO centre in the steel city. This is the first unit that has come up after establishment of Rourkela STPI fifteen years back. The BPO which deals in banking, security, finance and insurance (BSFI) sectors, has hired 26 professionals to start with.

Presently, 9 IT and IT Enabled Services companies are doing their business from Rourkela STPI. Out of these only 3 IT companies were able to get export order of Rs 4 to 5 crore per annum.
