Bhubaneswar: The Odisha chief minister, Naveen Patnaik, is under pressure as Kerala chief minister Pinayari Vijayan’s letter seeking support against Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019.

Now that the political parties and chief ministers opposed to BJP are rallying behind the movement against CAA, and sharp division is appearing between the secular and non-secular parties, Naveen is under pressure to take fresh stand on the issue of CAA.

Naveen’s BJD had supported the CAA in the passing in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. After the nation-wide flare up against CAA, he has made it clear that the National Registry of Citizenship (NRC) will not be implemented in Odisha.

Since Naveen enjoys the full confidence of the people Odisha, the State has not witnessed single violent protest against the CAA so far.

But, with the reaching of Pinayari Vijayan’s letter requesting to protest against CAA and pass a resolution in the Odisha Assembly like Kerela did, Naveen will have to take fresh decision to keep his secular image high.
