Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government Friday amended the Odisha Civil Service (Rehabilitation Assistance) Rules to provide appointment under compassionate ground only in Group- D posts. It has also amended that 50% of the Group-D only be reserved for such appointments.

The State cabinet, which met under the chairmanship of chief minister Naveen Patnaik, here on Friday, has decided to this effect.

Briefing the media persons soon after the cabinet meeting, the chief secretary, Asit Tripathy, said under the new Odisha Civil Service (Rehabilitation Assistance) Rule 2020, an eligible family member of the deceased government servant will now be offered a job in the Group-D category. To accommodate distressed family members, the government has reserved 50% of the vacant posts in the Group-D category for such family members, he added.

The chief secretary said, the recruitment under rehabilitation assistance scheme is being regulated by Odisha Civil Service( Rehabilitation Assistance) Rules 1990 and Odisha Civil Service (Rehabilitation Assistance) Amendment Rules 2016 provide that the appointments would be made in Group-C and Group-D category jobs. These Rules also provide that only 10% of the vacancies in the Group-C and Group-D jobs would be reserved for such family members.
