Cuttack: Odisha government medical colleges in the State have come under the scanner of the Odisha high court.

A division bench of the high court, comprising acting chief justice Sanju Panda and justice SK Sahoo, has directed all the government medical colleges of Odisha to apprise it of the sophisticated medical equipment and number of technicians available to operate them.

The bench, while taking up suo motu a media report as a PIL case, directed the authorities of SCB, Cuttack, and Koraput’s Saheed Laxman Naik Medical College and Hospital besides other colleges to inform about important machines present at different branches. The court also wanted to know whether trained technicians are available to run the machines. The court further asked the medical colleges to tell whether they have written to the Odisha government for the sophisticated machines.

The media had reported that sophisticated medical machines worth crores of rupees are lying idle due to absence of trained technicians.
