Bhubaneswar: The constructon Puri Jagannath Rath is expected to start from Friday as Centre today has cleared that the construction chariots of Puri Jagannath Temple can be taken up adhering the social distance guidelines.

Following the Puri Jagannath Temple managing committee recommendation, the State government had sought the clearance of the Centre regarding Rath construction.

The union home ministry has intimated the State government that the chariot construction work can be taken up adhering to the social distance guidelines. The ministry has stated that the Rath Khala, the yard where the three chariots are built, is a public place and adequate to maintain social distance.

The State government is expected to allow the Temple to go ahead with Rath construction today itself and work is likely to start from tomorrow.

The Rath construction has already delayed by 11 days and whether the three massive chariots would be ready by Rath Yatra which falls in the last week of June, next.

Even though the Rath will be ready whether the Rath Yatra will be held is yet to be decided by the State government. Taking in to the prevailing Coronavirus situation in June, the government will take the decision.
