New Delhi: The government of India Wednesday decided to amend the Essential Commodities Act and the Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee Act to benefit agriculture and farmers.

The cabinet, which met under the chairmanship of prime minister Narendra Modi, decided to remove onion and potato from the Essential Commodity Act. Dal will also be out of the purview of the Act.

The cabinet also decided to amend the APMC Act. to make marketing of agri produce free from barriers. Farmers can now sale their produce any where in the country to realise maximum price.
