Rourkela: Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) had supplied 3300 tonnes of specially developed New Plate Mill plates for use in various prestigious raillway projects.

The Odisha based steel plant of Central sector SAIL, had supplied 8200 tonnes of this steel in 2019-20.

Last year the Steel Plant had rolled out and supplied 3500 tonnes of IS 2062 E 410 C grade plates that are being used in fabrication of the carriage frame of Vande Bharat Express Train. This semi-hi speed intercity electric train is built under the Government of India’s Make in India initiative.

Besides, RSP has also developed plates in the grade IS 2062 E 350 / 410 / 450 Copper, that possess the properties like bending, welding and forming- useful for making of various components   like carriage frame, base and integral body of different types of Wagons and Coaches .

Another high strength steel developed for the railways is DIN EN 10025 S355 J2W+N grade. In 2029-20, 2500 tonnes of plates in this grade were supplied, while in the current year till July the Steel Plant has despatched 2000 tonnes. This corrosion resistant grade has been developed in the New Plate Mill for the Indian Railways.
