Cuttack: Handing over an examplary order, the Odisha high court Wednesday directed the State government to pay Rs 5 lakh compensation to the rape victim who is a differently abled girl.

Not only that the court has directed the State government to pay compensation Rs 5 lakh if the victim delivered a baby and Rs 3 lakh if the child is a male child.

According to the case, the disabled girl from Kujanga area of Jagatsinghpur district has conceived due to the rape.

The court has rejected the plea of the victim ‘s mother abortion on the ground that her pregnancy has passed that state and an abortion would not be advisable for her life.

The advocate for the victim, Subash Chandra Pasupalak, said that the court has directed the State government to deposit the ex-gratia amount of Rs 5 lakh in the bank in the shape of fixed deposit within a week. The government has also been directed to pay the compensation amount for the child within 10 days of the delivery, he added.
