Bhubaneswar: Two coal blocks in Odisha are expected to witness fierce biddings as the first phase of the auction process to hand over 38 blocks in the country for commercial operations.

As Adani, Essesl Mining of Aditya Birla Group are locking their horns to take control of coal blocks, Odisha’s Chendipada and Macchakatta coal blocks drools the bidders. While Chendipada promises 40 millon tonnes of thermal grade coal reserve, Macchakatta has a proven reserve of 30 million tonnes.

The other coal block which attracts the bidders most is the Gare Pelma IV/1 coal mines in Chhattisgarh. The block has a reserve of 6 million tonne.

The first tranche auction has offered 38 blocks. However, the bidders have shown interest for only 23 of that. There were 82 bids from 46 companies in the technical round. For 20 blocks there were more than two bidders.
