Bhubaneswar: The 34th meeting of the State Level Co-ordination Committee (SLCC) for the state of Odisha Monday delebersted on cyber frauds in the State.

The SLCC meeting, organized at Reserve Bank of India, Bhubaneswar, was chaired by Odisha Development Commissioner Ms. Anu Garg. Convened by Dr. Sarada Prasan Mohanty, Regional Director, RBI, the meeting was attended by Odisha finance principal secretary Sanjeeb Kumar Mishra, DIG CID Crime Branch, Vinaytosh Mishra, D and Home department special secretary Radha Kishan Sharma, RBI CGM,Mumbai Central Office, Ms. Puspamitra Sahu, and Sankalp Tyagi, Deputy Legal Advisor, Legal Cel, Kolkata, Sankalp Tyagi. Also attended other stakeholders like senior officials from Finance Department, Revenue and Disaster Management Department, Cooperation Department, Law Department, Office of Police Commissionerate, Cyber Crime ane SEBI.

The meeting was preceded by a workshop on Cyber Frauds in Odisha wherein bankers were advised to cooperate fully with law enforcing agencies to effectively tackle the menace of cyber frauds.

During the meeting, DGP informed that in Odisha, the most reported frauds included investment and trading scams, digital arrest scams, fake job and work-from-home offers, fraudulent websites and hotel bookings. social media frauds etc. As mule accounts are the backbone of cyber fraud operations, he advised urgent corrective action by banks.

RBI CGM explained RBI’s proactive and adaptive approach in combating cyber- enabled frauds and mule accounts by strengthening regulatory and supervisory framework, collaborating with various stakeholders like state law enforcing agencies and customer awareness programmes on safe banking and fraud prevention. Deputy Legal Advisor, RBI explained the nuances of Banning of Unregulated Deposit Schemes (BUDS) Act 2019.

The forum also deliberated on various other issues including complaints against unincorporated bodies cooperative societies, market intlligence inputs etc.

Ms. Anu Garg noted that while digital innovaton was increasing effiency and inclusion, continuous awareness programmes on cyber fraud risks and swift conviction of cyber fraudsters as deterrent measure were the need of the hour to combat instances of cyber frauds and unauthorized deposit acceptance. She advised all stakeholders to take requisite preventive and deterrent action promptly and also suggest action required to plug any vulnerabilities. She stressed on need for extensive awareness campaigns through various channels, including online publicity, to educate the public to prevent them from falling prey to Ponzi schemes by unscrupulous entities
