Bhubaneswar : Odisha has abolished the Professional Tax.

Presenting the State Budget for the Financial Year 2026-27 in the House on Friday, the Chief Minister who also holds the portfolio of Finance Mohan Charan Majhi said the State government has done away with the Professional Tax. According to him the State exchequer would suffer a loss of Rs320 crore per annum for this decision.

The CM told the House the decision has been taken on the feedback by the Pre-budget Consultation meeting where in it was pointed out that the Professional Tax amounts to double taxation for those who are paying Income Tax.
