Paradeep: ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) successfully conducted a full-scale Silent Hour Mock Drill within the Paradeep Pellet Plant complex, demonstrating its onsite emergency preparedness capabilities.
The drill, which was organised in the evening as per the schedule of the District Crisis Group (DCG), Jagatsinghpur, simulated a fire incident involving hot work at the Natural Gas Safety Skid area of Pellet Plant-2 within the Paradeep Pellet Plant complex.
The exercise saw active participation from multiple departments of AM/NS India, including Operations, Mechanical, Electrical, Health & Safety, Administration, Human Resources, Fire Safety, and Medical. A key highlight of the drill was the successful deployment of a joint firefighting contingent, comprising the Fire Safety team of AM/NS India, the IFFCO Fire Safety team, and the Odisha Fire Department, Kujang, demonstrating seamless inter-agency coordination.
Kartik Biswal, Fire Officer, Kujang, Debendra Rout, Sarpanch, Nuagarh Gram Panchayat, C.H. Hariprasad, Plant Head, Paradeep Pellet Plant, SPL, AM/NS Ports, Rajarshi Sinha, Head-Power Plant and Sanjeev Kumar Muduli, Head-Health & Safety were present. Representatives from the Indian Coast Guard, CISF-Paradeep, members of DCG, IOCL-LPG Terminal, GAIL, Paradeep Port Authority, and IFFCO, Goa Carbon, Adani Wilmar, Paradeep Phosphates were also present.
The health and safety department of AM/NS India seamlessly coordinated the drill, and a command structure was established as per the onsite emergency preparedness plan, demonstrating expertise in mitigating potential hazards.
