Bhubaneswar : A 5-day International Workshop on Deep Learning and Artificial Intelligence (DLA19), held in collaboration with the Asia-Pacific Neural Networks Society (APNNS) and IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS), concluded, here on Sunday. with a focus on advancing the role of Al and machine learning in geospatial science and technology.

The workshop, hosted by the Indian Institute of Information Technology (lIIT) Bhubaneswar, featured cutting-edge discussions, expert insights, and a hands-on Geospatial Hackathon that addressed some of the most pressing global challenges.The workshop’s inaugural ceremony was graced by keynote addresses from two distinguished thought leaders in the fields of Al and technology.

Prof. Ashish Ghosh, Director of IlIT Bhubaneswar, set the tone for the event with an inspiring speech on the transformative potential of Al and Deep Learning. His address emphasized the importance of res earch collaboration and global knowledge exchange in fostering advancements in Al.

Prof. B. Yegnanarayana, Distinguished Professor at IIIT Hyderabad, shared his profound insights on the evolution of neural networks and the future directions of Al research. His keynote captivated attendees with a deep dive into the emerging trends in Al anc its applications in diverse sectors.

The inaugural session was skillfully moderated by Dr. Sambit Mohapatra from IlIT Bhubaneswar, who ensured a smooth flow of the proceedings and engaged the audience with pertinent questions. The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Arpit Sourav Mohapatra, IIT Bhubaneswar, who expressed gratitude to all the dignitaries. speakers, and participants for their valuable contributions to the event.One of the most exciting components of the work shop was the GeoHack2025, a Geospatial Hackathon that encouraged participants to develop innovative solutions to real-world challenges using deep learning and Al techniques.

Teams of researchers, students, and professionals worked collaboratively on problem statements such as Real-Time Disaster Detection and Response and Crop Health Monitoring and Yield Forecasting.

The valedictory ceremony marked the culmination of the workshop, during which the winners of the GeoHack2025 and the authors of the best research papers were felicitated.
