Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar Middle BJD MLA and former Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation mayor Anant Narayan Jena demanded that the government should take over Kamala Nehru Women’s College.
Speaking at the 40th Annual Function of Kamala Nehru Women’s College, here on Friday, Jena urged the State higher education minister to take necessary steps for immediate government take over of the city’s second biggest women’s college.
Established in 1979, the KNW college is the second biggest college after Rama Devi Women’s College in the city. In fact KNW College is the biggest government aided women’s college in Bhubaneswar.
The State higher education minister Arun Sahoo graced the occasion as chief guest.
The chief speaker, Asit Mohanty, urged the students to assert their position in the society remaining sensitive to the social culture and ethics. He quoted Lakshmi Purana and mediaval poet Balaram Das to drive home his points.
Principal of the college Sriknta Mishra presided over the meeting and Odia lecturer Jyoshna Rout conducted the programme.
The students presented a colorful cultural programme. The girls students enthralled the audience with Odissi classical dance, fusion dance, Sambalpuri folk dance, and a skits on female infanticide.
