Berhampur: In a major boost to southern Odisha’s power infrastructure, TP Southern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPSODL) has successfully completed the capacity augmentation of the Power Substation (PSS) at Kantamal in Boudh district. The move comes in anticipation of a sharp rise in electricity demand during the ongoing summer season.Earlier, the Kantamal PSS operated with two power transformers — one with a capacity of 5 MVA and another of 1.5 MVA — totaling 6.5 MVA. As part of the upgrade, the 1.5 MVA transformer has been replaced with a new 3.15 MVA unit.

This enhancement takes the substation’s total capacity to 8.15 MVA, significantly improving its ability to handle increased load and offer seamless power delivery. This upgrade will directly benefit over 5,000 consumers in the Kantamal block, including the block headquarters and surrounding rural pockets. It will also ensure more stable and efficient supply to three critical feeders: Kantamal Medical, Kantamal Block Headquarters, and Udayapur. These feeders cater to essential services and residential areas, making uninterrupted power supply crucial during high-demand periods.

Amit Kumar Garg, CEO of TPSODL, stated, “With summer demand peaking, reliable electricity becomes vital. This substation upgrade is part of our continuous efforts to strengthen infrastructure, minimize outages, and meet the growing needs of our consumers.”TPSODL remains committed to enhancing southern Odisha’s power distribution network through strategic investments in infrastructure, technology, and consumer-focused initiatives aimed at building a robust and future-ready system.
