Bhubaneswar: Odisha Deputy Chief Minister KV Singhdeo is personally supervising the potato cultivation in the State.
The State has set a target of cultivating potatoes in 50,000 acres of land in the Rabi season. For this, patato seed is being made available to farmers at a subsidised rate.
Authentic seed potatoes procured from Punjab is being sold to farmers at a price of 20 rupees per kg. Farmers would get back Rs 10 per kg after planting the potato seeds in the field. So far, about 1 lakh quintals of high-quality seed potatoes have been distributed in various blocks of 30 districts.
The Principal Secretary, Agriculture, Dr. Arabind Padhee, reviewed the progress of seed potates distribution in the State on Thursday.
“We hope that all the seed potatoes will be provided by the end of November,” said Dr. Padhee.
In this meeting, Principal Secretary Dr. Padhee emphasized the importance of quality and timely distribution of seed potatoes
After receiving the potato seeds, the farmers are requested to treat them and plant them in the field using improved methods.
It is believed that the success of potato cultivation is assured due to the favorable climate in the State.
Director Horticulture Kalunge Gorakh Waman, and Managing Director, Odisha State Seed Corporation Niti Ranjan Sen, were present during the meeting.
