Bhubaneswar: The Odisha chief minister, Naveen Patnaik, called upon the chartered accountants of the nation  to play a key role in the implementation of the Goods & Services Tax(GST) in the country.

Patnaik, while addressing auditors at the 14th National Conference of Chartered Accountants hosted by the Bhubaneswar branch of the ICAI, here on Saturday, said that  the recent introduction of Goods & Service Tax(GST) in India has brought about major reforms under Indirect Taxation and has put a challenge  before the chartered accountants for its adaptability and acceptability by the  business community and people at large. “I am sure”, he added, “the ICAI and its members will play active role in a very effective  and proactive manner in successful implementation of this important taxation reforms.”

The chief minister said that the conference aims to sensitize the member s and professionals in the areas of corporate and taxation laws, accounting,  auditing, with particular emphasis on corporate governance, CSR  activities and Information Technology. “I am sure”, he added, “ the conference will help the  participants in facing new frontiers of their career, entangled with challenges and possibilities to serve the society better.”

The Nalco CMD Dr. TK Chand, ICAI president  NS Vikamsey, chairman for committee for capacity building of members,  Rajesh Sharma, also addressed the conference
