Bhubaneswar: The Odisha governor, Dr. SC Jamir, Monday directed the state government to rationalize the jurisdiction of the universities in the state.

Pointing out that some of the universities have more number of colleges under it while others have very few, the governor, who is also the chancellor of universities,  asked the state government to remove this anomalies. He also suggested to find out ways and means to improve the capacity of universities in the state.

Jamir, while addressing the vice chancellors of the universities in Odisha, here in the Raj Bhawan,  said that the universities must stress on high quality research, academic exchanges programmes with established international universities, and placements of students. He also emphasized on availing maximum funds from UGC, putting in place required infrastructures and filling of vacancies.

The meeting was attended by VCs of Rama Devi University, Padmaja Mishra, GM University Atanu Kumar Pati, Odisha State Open University Srikanta Mohapatra, and Kallikot University Amarendra Narayan Mishra. The state educational department additional chief secretary, GVV Sharma, and finance department principal secretay, TK Pandey, governor’s principal secretary CJ Venugopal,secretary Himansu Narayan Patnaik, and controller of accounts Soumyanarayan Panigrahi also attended the meeting.
