New Delhi: Dreaded coal mafia Ashok Kumar Singh has been arrested by the Delhi Crime Branch police for the murderous attack on Steel Authority of India Ltd.(Sail) chairman Anil Kumar Chaudhary.

The Sail chairman was attacked on August on August 7 by four miscreants with iron rods and cutters. He sustained injuries on his head, neck, knees and legs.

Singh allegedly organised the attack on Sail chief to take revenge as the later cancelled his order of Rs 100 crore worth of coal supply to the public sector behemoth, said police. The coal mafia had reportedly had given Supari of Rs 6 lakh and paid Rs 2 lakh in advance the four assailants to kill the Sail chairman.

Police arrested Singh from his residence in southwest Delhi’s Vasant Kunj on Friday for masterminding the attack on Chaudhary.

Sail found the coal supplied by Singh’s son company was of low quality even though it has paid an advance of Rs 30 crore for the coal supply according to the deal. Following the failure of quality test, the Sail chairman reportedly cancelled the whole order of Rs 100 crore.

“Chaudhary ordered for the deal to be cancelled and this triggered AK Singh who resolved to take revenge on the SAIL chief”, said the police.

On August 7, Chaudhary’s car was hit by another car. When he and his driver came out of the car, one person from the other vehicle caught the driver by his neck and three others assaulted Chaudhary.

On hearing the commotion, policemen who were patrolling nearby rushed to the spot and nabbed two of the attackers. The arrested assailants have confessed that they had received Supari from Ashok Singh to kill Chaudhuary. .
