Bhubaneswar: Singapore based international design consultant Subarna Jurong is going to develop the Bhubaneswar railway station into a world class railway station with a multi-modal hub.

The Odisha chief minister, Naveen Patnaik, Thursday said that the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDC), which is the nodal agency for planning, designing and executing the project, has already roped in Singapore based international consultant Subarna Jurong for the project.

He said the Bhubaneswar multi-modal hub will be developed by the State government at a cost of Rs 840 crore. The project will be completed within 30 months, he added. He said a three-tire monitoring mechanism will be put in place for close supervision of work progress.

Patnaik, who graced an MoU signing ceremony between the Odisha government’s BDA and the East Coast Railway for the development of the project, here on Thursday, said “It is one of the biggest milestones to transform Bhubaneswar railway station into a world class railway station with multi-modal hub.” “Bhubaneswar Development Authority will involve internationally reputed consultants and showcase Bhubaneswar to the world with a blend of contemporary design and traditional Kalinga architecture

Claiming that it would be the first transit- oriented smart development project, the chief minister expected the project to trigger development of planned central business district for Bhubaneswar.
